SHRSL Update – ALL STARS

Good evening all! Due to updates to Governor Abbott’s Executive Orders today, the SHRSL League Executive Board has decided to cancel the July 10, 2020 All Star Meet. We do not feel comfortable in our ability to monitor spectators outside of the gates. We had an amazing plan and were very confident in our ability to protect inside the gates, it’s just too much of a risk OUTSIDE of the gates! We’d like to thank Chip & Calvin for doing some behind the scenes work on porters/cleaning companies, port-a-potties, food trucks, facility rental and for WELCOMING our All Star Meet into Greatwood!

You might be wondering about Meet of Champions. Each team has done a MARVELOUS job of giving these swimmers some normalcy in their lives, however weird and not normal it was to all of us. THANK YOU!
MEET OF CHAMPIONS IS ON! IT IS NOW CALLED ALL STARS!
We will be taking the Top 16 from across the League, and awarding ALL STAR awards. Everything is a go…..run your meets as you see fit, HOWEVER, you must follow the State of Texas’ Governor’s orders, along with any odd local orders. Everyone over the age of 10 MUST WEAR MASKS. That’s OUR rule, regardless of whether or not you are social-distancing perfectly, everyone inside and outside of your gates must wear a must (except for the exemptions). You can find anything you need to know at: https://gov.texas.gov/
RESULTS: Please do your thing with TM – ZERO CHANGE to the way you’ve been reporting this season. Just send us the results. This will be an easy merge and we’ll get them out fast, as we won’t be scrambling to organize All Stars.
  • If you are set up in MM already, please EXPORT RESULTS FOR TEAM MANAGER or send me a results file. Jerome – you’ve got this 😉
  • If you are set up in TM, keep going. Don’t change. We’ve had zero issues.
  • Both work just fine for me.
AWARDS: Christine has all awards pre-bagged already, and we’ll set up a drop for each team! Look for more information on WHERE.
ALL – We are so proud of how the 9 teams have conducted themselves, organized meets, kept it safe for all and made this happen. To the rest of the teams, we’ve missed you and we wish you the best in health.
We are working on the ability for you to order All Star t-shirts. That meeting is in the morning.
On behalf of the EB, THANK YOU for your efforts. The kids thank you. The families that participated welcomed the social outlets we are sure.
Questions, comments. Please holler. You know where to find us.
Be safe. Be healthy. Be AWESOME!
The SHRSL Executive Board

2020 MAY UPDATE #1

UPDATE – MAY 11, 2020

IN ALL REALITY…we are still on hold but the BOD is discussing ideas/restrictions on a daily basis. Thanks to the teams that have shared and we are looking forward to hearing more!

Please keep in mind that the BOD knows as much as you do, so here we go:

SEASON: We are still planning on having a season and are moving forward accordingly. No teams will swim prior to MAY 19, 2020 . Insurance has NOT been provided for teams yet.

We’ll share info as we have it. We are clearly at the mercy of local governments (county/city) and HOAs.

FAQs:

  • We understand the concerns surround social-distancing and assure you that we are talking about all kinds of different ideas to keep the season “recreationally competitive” per our Mission.
  • Meets: NO DECISIONS have been made. Per the last email, we’ll get back with you after PHASE 2 announcements.
    • Lots of ideas are on the table. If you have one, please email accordingly.
    • Yes, we understand families are questioning the social distancing suggestions/restrictions. We are too.
  • First Meet – June 1. No change.
    • We are willing to push meets back one week to June 8.
    • Final call on the season will be made by May 29 by noon, to accommodate a June 8 start (that would involve a canceled June 1 meet).
    • The End of Season is a fixed date as posted.
  • Individual teams will make the decision to participate this year.
  • Dates and occupancy rates are all over everything – at least in this situation, all teams are at the same disadvantage practice wise.
  • May 18: Phase 2 of Gov. Abbott’s “OpenTexas” will be shared. The BOD will meet following the new allowances.
  • If for some reason, we can’t make a move to put kids in the water the week of the 18th, FINAL decision on the season will be made sometime on May 28, and communicated on May 29 (Friday….) by noon and we’ll communicate accordingly via email, website and Facebook.
  • WE HAVE NOT ANY CHANGES or UPDATES TO ANYTHING ABOVE….that being said, if YOU/YOUR TEAM have changes/updates/decisions/HOA comments or restrictions, please share via email so it can be shared with Steve/Tammy/Mel/Christine/Jim/Dan/Jeff at the same time.

TEAM REGISTRATION:

  • Change in team payments for 2020:  We’ll work off of 2020 swimmer counts for required team payments and we’ll need those payments pretty fast……
  • At this time, Swimtopia says they will process a 100% registration refund to families, should a refund be necessary. So far, it’s happening this way for a few teams!

DIVISIONS & SCHEDULES:

  • Divisions are “sort of set” but will need more information from the teams – mostly size. Yes…there might be modified divisions according to team size/registration numbers for 2020.
  • Will this current coronavirus situation affect divisions for 2021? NO. PERIOD
  • Post Season. Just don’t know yet….need to better understand occupancy allowances and social distancing mandates.

Please continue to be flexible and know we are trying to NOT cancel, but trying to be smart/conscientious at the same time.

Know that the League Board will make what we think is the best decision possible for the League and some might not agree.

Please share any creative ideas/suggestions/concerns with [email protected] and we’ll get back with you!

LET’S DO THIS and get these kiddos back to some sense of normalcy!

Apr 19

2020 APRIL UPDATE

The Board and League Reps (of all kinds – coaches, team reps, prez…and more) just entertained a virtual meeting. Actually, it went pretty good. Thanks for cooperating. Sorry about the muting. The chat room worked just fine until the “side comments” started…but that’s not really different than normal, right? MISS Y’ALL!

Here are the high points, but really…we are still on hold.

Please keep in mind that the BOD knows as much as you do, so here we go:

SEASON: We are still planning on having a season and are moving forward accordingly. No teams will swim prior to MAY 15 . NOTE: your insurance is only good thru 4/28/20 – please don’t do it….

We’ll share info as we have it. We are clearly at the mercy of local governments (county/city) and HOAs. That being said, please understand that things might not be “even” across the League. We have teams in MoCity, Sugar Land, Houston, Stafford, Meadows…all with their own governments. That doesn’t even mention the HOA’s…

  • MEETS:
    • First Meet – June 1 as posted.
    • We are willing to push back one week to June 8. If it looks like we need to push further than that, we’ll have to cancel the season for obvious reasons.
      • See Reg & Ins below:
        • Final call on the season will be made by May 29 by noon, to accommodate a June 8 start (that would involve a canceled June 1 meet).
      • Registration has to start NOW for any of this to happen. More info below.
    • The End of Season is a fixed date.
  • It’ll be up to the individual teams as to whether or not you will participate this year….if parents are questioning social distancing rules, it is what it is.
  • Does anyone think potentially one week of practice is enough? No we don’t BUT….we aren’t willing to cancel the season because of it. As it is, some teams start the day we allow them to, and some don’t start until 2nd week of May. It’s all over everything – at least in this situation, we’d all be at the same disadvantage.
  • Should the stay-a-home and social distancing “orders” drag on into late May with no end in site (which very well could happen, and we know it), a FINAL decision will be made sometime on May 28, and communicated on May 29 (Friday….) by noon and we’ll communicate accordingly via email, website and Facebook.

REGISTRATION & INSURANCE: Teams have been asked to go ahead and REGISTER YOUR TEAMS. It’s up to the team if they want to go ahead and charge a registration fee now or just register KIDS with no payment – to demonstrate intent.

  • We need these registration numbers by MAY 14 (or earlier). Keep in mind a May 15 “tentative” start day for practices. It’s aggressive…we know it.
  • That being said, your team MUST BE REGISTERED by May 14, if we turn all loose for practice on May 15. Non-negotiable. And this might change…please be flexible.
  • Change in team payments for 2020:  We’ll work off of 2020 swimmer counts for required team payments and we’ll need those payments pretty fast……
  • At this time, Swimtopia says they will process a 100% registration refund to families, should a refund be necessary.

STROKE CLINICS: Obviously are canceled and we’ll get info out to you as soon as we have it. The website will be our primary information source and will be updated accordingly.

DIVISIONS & SCHEDULES: (Updated 4/20/20)

  • We have Divisions “sort of set” but will need more information from the teams – mostly size. Yes…there might be modified divisions according to team size/registration numbers for 2020.
  • Will this affect divisions for next year? NO. PERIOD.
  • Just sharing our thoughts + a lot of wiggle room:
    • If government opens May 1, ,then league starts May 15th, insurance purchased about May 8th, meet 1 on June 1.
    • If gov opens May 15, then league starts June 1, insurance purchased about May 22nd, meet 1 on June 8
    • If gov opens June 1, then league starts June 1 (no delay), insurance purchased about May 22nd since we’ll have team expectations (numbers) by then and Meet 1 on June 8

OPTIONS & DISCUSSIONS that were entertained:

  • Insurance: There’s no change in insurance for the “what if someone catches a cold/ear infection/COVID”. The swimmer’s primary insurance would come into play…just like normal seasons.
  • Social Distancing at practice and. meets: CLEARLY if there are governmental rules regarding groups of people, we’ll need to follow.
  • Volunteers: Due to expected team size issues, we’ll look at reducing the required number of volunteers if need be. (ex: timers..scribes,etc)
  • USA/Club Drop Deadline: NO CHANGE – it’s April 30, 2020.
  • Will there be a change in number of meets required for MOC: NO.
  • SUGGESTION: Virtual Meets: Should the social distancing orders allow for practices, groups of 20-30 folks OR less than a swim meet would host…. We could time the kids and share…score out a meet according to time.
  • SUGGESTION: Can we have a “season” of practices with no meets if it looks like things will open up in June….probably? We’ll just have to watch. That would involve a quick vote – we’d still need registration fees to cover insurance.

Please Please Please be flexible and know we are trying to NOT cancel, but trying to be smart/conscientious at the same time. Know that the League Board will make what we think is the best decision possible for the League and some might not agree….do we all agree 100% all the time? No….we don’t and we’ll work with that.

Please share any creative ideas/suggestions/concerns with [email protected] and we’ll get back with you!

Stay home. Stay safe. Stay healthy. LET’S DO THIS and get these kiddos back to some sense of normalcy!

MOC & ALL STAR Update

2019 MOC & ALL STAR NOTE (CHANGE for 2019)

Starting in 2019, all MOC Top 16 Finishers will be required to declare their intent for All Stars.

Each MOC will have a  person at the AWARDS area, that will handle these declaration (OPT IN/OPT OUT) documents. Why are we doing this? There have just been too many scratches through the years. Other swim organizations require “positive check in” – so this is not uncommon. By MOC, families should know their swimmers’ availability for All Stars. ONE CALL UP LIST will be posted. What happens if someone doesn’t OPT OUT, that lane will be left open and other swimmers will be denied to chance to swim at All Stars. Please understand that we are doing what’s BEST of the swimmers while planning a meet with many swimmers and that it’s up to the teams to manage themselves. Questions? Email [email protected] and someone will do their best to answer!

DIVISION 4: MOC PM Session starts at 5:00p. Look for more information from your Division VP.

ENTRIES: MOC Entry File is updated on the MOC/Database Page. Entries are due by 7:00p on July 2. There will be NO SCRATCHES at MOC as lane/timer sheets will be run pre-meet. Please do NOT “enter all”. Entries for MOC are made exactly like a normal meet – the League just created the file.

MOC Eligibility: Swimmers should have LEGALLY completed MOC entry events over the course of the 5 meets and must have participated in at least TWO MEETS. Illegal swims/swimmers result in a 100 point deduction from team totals.

PROTESTS: Per the bylaws, any protests that happen at Meet 5 or before MOC, need to be sent to [email protected] for dissemination to the League BOD. Text Tammy Schoen (713-301-1417) & Melanie Remy (281-543-7803), so we can start the process. Protest must be made IN WRITING, and submitted per the Policies and Procedures (see dates) to [email protected] Hopefully we don’t have any, because time is tight next week.

ALL STAR QUALIFIERS:  No change here. 1st Place auto-advances in all events and will be posted as soon as results come in. For Individual Events, the next 11 from across the League will be called up (this totals 16). For Relays, the next 3 relays from across the League will be called up (this totals 8). These qualifiers will be posted on the All Star page as results begin to come in. 2 Alternates for each event will be listed and contacted/used if the need arises.

POLICIES & PROCEDURES: Posted and updated. The LEAGUE REQUIREMENTS for rosters, including due dates and times, are correctly listed.

RECORDS: Records have been double checked, updated and posted on the HOME page of the SHRSL.org website, as well as the ALL STAR page 🙂

Let’s do this SHRSL!

Discussion will follow in early 2019 after we’ve had a chance to share with you what’s “on the table.” We’ll add EVERYTHING that comes in, so you can see (even the VEGETARIAN requests……)
This email is being sent to the 2018 Summer Distribution list. Please share with your inbound, 2019 boards accordingly! It’s fine to send “remove me/add me” now!
Happy Hump Day! Thanks y’all…..be good!
